The Soul of the Rose — John William Waterhouse Series

Inspired by the romantic imagery of John William Waterhouse, The Soul of the Rose translates painterly intimacy, texture, and emotional softness into fiber. This colorway draws directly from the layered tones of the kimono, the warmth of flushed skin, the cool restraint of teal shadows, and the quiet luminosity woven throughout the original painting.

This is a multi-process colorway built slowly and intentionally. Warm rose, blush, and muted aqua tones form the foundation, grounded by deeper purples that add weight and contrast. A final layer of golden-yellow speckling is applied over the teal sections of the skein, deliberately echoing the textured patterning and movement of the kimono. That last pass of color mimics brushwork rather than flattening it, adding visual rhythm and depth.

As fabric grows, highlights emerge like light caught in hair, while softer transitions suggest petals, skin, and shadow. The result is a colorway that reveals itself gradually — ideal for textured stitches, brioche, and projects where slow color movement can shine.

Each skein is dyed individually, making every skein unique.

For larger projects, alternating skeins is recommended for the most even color flow.
