How Toys Become Real — Banned Book Colorway

Inspired by The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams, this Banned Book colorway reimagines a beloved story of memory, imagination, and emotional truth.

In the book, the rabbit is described as “spotted white and brown.” But in my childhood mind, he was always something else entirely — a soft, well-loved plush burgundy velveteen, worn smooth through years of affection and imagination. That personal vision became the heart of this colorway.

The Velveteen Rabbit has been challenged and banned for its themes of love, loss, and emotional realism — ideas that trust children with honesty rather than sheltering them from it. This colorway honors that same trust. Warm, nostalgic, and deeply human, it’s a yarn about becoming real through care, connection, and time.
