In this extraordinary image, astronomers captured a massive star in its final stages of life, expelling enormous amounts of gas and dust into space. What appears to be destruction is also creation—the elements forged within dying stars are scattered into the cosmos, becoming the building blocks for new stars, planets, and even life itself.

Dusty Death (of a Massive Star) captures this celestial transformation with blazing oranges and fiery reds, glowing golden yellows, and vivid acid greens that radiate with energy. Hidden throughout are UV-reactive dyes that burst to life under blacklight, echoing the way infrared observatories reveal the brilliant structures hidden within cosmic dust clouds.
